Video-performance, 2026. MANIFESTA 16 / St Gertrude’s Church, Essen.
The video-performance depicts the cleansing of the body of Christ as depicted in the mosaic of St Gertrude’s Church. The transformation of the church from a sacred site into a functional space prompts the artist to question our contemporary relationship with Christianity. Drawing on the words of Nietzsche and the victims of the Mafia in his native region, the artist stages the removal of blood from a murdered body, a body with which we have never truly come to terms. The cleansing thus becomes an allegory of justice denied and, at the same time, an attempt to reawaken a spiritual presence in a world dominated by productivity.
